How to Use Your Stove and Range Hood to Reduce Grease Build-Up

Almost all working kitchens produce it. It is often disliked by nearly everyone. It can be potentially dangerous.

What is it?

Grease!

Almost all kitchens where people cook food come with the problem of grease build-up. Over time, if you don't clean it properly, grease build-up can leave a residue all over your kitchen surfaces, including your stove, walls, and cabinets. Not only does grease accumulation give a dirty look to your kitchen, but cleaning it up can be a challenge, especially when it has toughened all around the different surfaces in your kitchen. Moreover, residue grease can catch fire and maybe pose a threat to your safety.

But the good news is you can reduce the build-up of grease in your kitchen by implementing the following measures.

Invest in a Range Hood

As obvious as it might seem, many people still do not invest in a range hood primarily because they don't understand its purpose and benefits. A range hood is designed to work as a vacuum cleaner. It removes odor, heat, particles of grease, and steam as you prepare meals. In turn, it leaves the air in your home cool and clean, and over time, you will notice a reduced grease build-up in your kitchen.

Keep Your Range Hood Clean

And while almost all the grease and fatty particles will be sucked up by your range hood, this important kitchen appliance too needs cleaning. You need to clean the surface of your range hood often because the grease can land on the surface of your range hood and stay there until you clean it with an anti-grease dish wash. Simply use a mix of liquid dish soap and water, and gently wipe through it. If you clean your range hood frequently, you will not need to scrub the surface as it might damage your appliance.

While cleaning a range hood on the outside is not that vital, cleaning it from the inside (where the vent is installed) is. A simple soap and water mixture can help; however, you can also go for specialized range hood cleaning products to clean your appliance from the inside.

Clean (or Change) the Filters

The grease that is expelled out of your kitchen gets into the filters of your range hood. Therefore, a critical aspect of range hood cleaning is to clean or change the filters. Using a mixture of dish soap and water, you can soak the filters for 15-20 before taking them out and using a scrubbing brush to clean them. Rinse it with water and place it again in your range hood once it is completely dry. If you keep your filters clean, your filters will live longer. But if you do not maintain your range hood filters' health, you will have to change them at least once a year.

Clean All Surfaces

Your range hood takes most of your kitchen grease's brunt, but that does not mean you do not need to worry about other surfaces. Whenever you cook, make sure to clean the stove and all other surfaces, including walls. You can remove stove tops and burners and clean them thoroughly. To reduce grease build-up in your kitchen, it is best to clean all kitchen surfaces with soap and water mixture at least once a week. In case you don't cook often, you can delay your deep kitchen cleaning and do it once a month.
